Remember that time, only a few weeks ago, when Valentine’s Day was creeping up and you completely forgot until the last minute. Well, we’re here to remind you again, because on the 15th March is Mother’s Day!

Mother’s Day, or Mothering Sunday, is a great time for mums as it is a time to relax; to put your feet up, kick back, and sit down in front of the TV or a good book with a coffee or a glass of wine and bask in the Spring sunlight that streams in through your window.

Ok, so the chances of any of those things happening are slim, at best, but at least you can make things go a bit more smoothly by organizing a gift for your mother, or share this post to offer a hint to your wonderful (ly forgetful) children.

So, fancy some ideas for great Mother’s Day gifts that aren’t floral bouquets and chocolates? Well, here they are:

1. Jennifer Rose Vintage Strap Bag

I know, a bag isn’t usually the first thing you think of when you consider Mother’s Day gifts, but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t go down a storm! This fantastic Jennifer Rose bag is a cross-body style bag, with a long adjustable over-the-shoulder strap, made from beautiful oilcloth. It’s durable, easy to clean, and will outlast flowers, that’s for sure.

2. Shabby Chic Hanging Plaque

This next offering is more of an accompaniment than a stand-alone gift. We all know that mothers are continuously unappreciated; it’s the nature of the job, sometimes. However, we can let them know, from time to time, how much we love them, without having to wait for Mothering Sunday to do so. This plaque is a healthy reminder that can live on your wall for all to see 365 days a year.

3. Photo Frame (ideally with a photo)

A photo with mum is a photo you will cherish forever. Even the bad photos are still worth holding on to, as staged photos often lose the emotion of ‘random captures’. Here’s an opportunity to make the most of those pictures you have stashed in the bottom of that unused wardrobe, which you always meant to get framed.

4. 'Chintz' Heart Cushion

Cushions make great gifts for Mother’s Day as they are so practical! Not only do they look great just sitting there on the sofa, they also keep you warm while you desperately try to catch the last few precious minutes before the kids come back, the husband needs something, or the dog decides that it’s more important than you previously considered. These ‘chintz’ style cushions look just as fantastic as accents for an otherwise plain style as they do when combined with shabby-chic ‘clutter’.

5. Belleek Tea Light Holder

A couple of these lovely tea light holders, a glass of wine, a classic Sunday film and 2 hours of peace is all any mother really wants on Mother’s Day. Candlelight is proven as a calming stress-reliever. It increases tranquility and self-awareness, whilst also enabling increased focus on a particular subject. Scented candles can also help to enhance this feeling. With this in mind, a few tea light holders for the living room or bathroom will be just what are needed on a serene Sunday.

We at Bronte Rose love this time of year. Mothering Sunday seems to be one of the quintessential moments that goes hand-in-hand with vintage décor; a period of time that it just feels right.
